  • Back in the late 50's or early 60's there was a drawing of a girl and a boy, just their heads, used to promote "Columbia's Younger Generation". They had freckles and the girl had what looked to be a sailor hat on. The Sony/Columbia symbol was used for their eyes. What were the names of these two kids?

  • Dear davitaz53, Being a collector of classic rock'n'roll, I own a rare 2-CD-box with comprehensive book featuring that particular advertisement. The boy and the girl were designed after Larry and Lorrie Collins, better known as "The Collins Kids". They were brother and sister, a rockabilly / rock'n'roll act. The drawing resembles, of course, Larry and Lorrie only very roughly, if at all. They were Columbia's big hope to get a foot in the rock'n'roll market in the second half of the 50s. Source: The Collins Kids: Hop, Skip & Jump. 2 CD box set with book. Bear Family Records, 1991. Hope this answers your question! Best regards, Scriptor

  • Wow. Scriptor knows EVERYTHING. I am really impressed! Here's a bit of info about the Collins kids, who come from my home state, Oklahoma: http://www.theranchgirls.com/bio/collinskids.html

  • Superb speed in answering and gave explicit answer. Many thanks for your help!

  • Thanks Scriptor, Did the actual advertisement use the name of Lorrie and Larry for the drawings or did they use two different names? Thanks for the clarification.

  • Dear davitaz53, The advertisement clearly shows the following words together with the drawing: "Columbia's Younger Generation: The Collins Kids (Larry and Lorrie)". No alternative names were created. Best regards, Scriptor
