I had a terrific experience the only time I ever used the concierge service. I was running late for a flight at LHR; the concierge called the gate, got me a ride through the terminal, arranged for my bags to be gate-checked...
He gave me a business card with his direct number and cell number on it-- I certainly plan to collect cards from concierges in 2001. Never know when the direct number might be useful... Flew YOW-LHR at the end of the summer, on CP, and was met by Jennifer from AC who said she was with AC's "new" concierge program. Escorted me through fast-track customs & immigration, picked up my luggage, and took me to the AC arrivals lounge for a shower and details on how to connect on BD (to Paris). She was great. I asked "Why me?" and she said there were 2 CP Gold on the flight and she picked my name. Nice to know about the arrivals lounge in LHR!
Does Air Canada discriminate in the above scenario in offering this service if the business class seat is purchased, versus upgraded?
Based on the old CP concierge service, when the concierge come on board to welcome you and ask whether there's anything they can do for you, they target the EPs in both Y and J and never other J pax.
Well, what s/he doesn't know won't hurt them. I am finding, with the new AC/CP, that this is an example of the way most things are decided at AC -- randomly and arbitrary! What are the services that they offer? Do they have a separate check in counter when checking in (separate from the regualr business class counter)? Separate desk at a business class lounge? Access to restricted section of a lounge?
Must be nice for you to get it but poor guy who was the second CP Gold! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I can not take advantage of this service, unless I fly international business class?
Correct (unless you become SE this year)
This service would not be available if I fly North American business class?
Correct
Does Air Canada discriminate in the above scenario in offering this service if the business class seat is purchased, versus upgraded?
Not certain.
What are the services that they offer?
Anything a hotel concierge would do (theatre tickets etc.) but they also can expedite your connection at the airport in unusual circumstances.
Do they have a separate check in counter when checking in (separate from the regualr business class counter)?
Not so far. They do not normally facilitate travel arrangements. That may have changed with this new introduction.
Separate desk at a business class lounge?
Yes
Access to restricted section of a lounge?
No.
Never used them even being SE for 3 years. Just don't know what to use them for?

The CP concierge haven't done much for me in the past, the most memorable experience is that one came on board and chase after me for an upgrade sticker in SYD. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Air Canada introduces its new Concierge Service. This week, Air Canada launched Concierge Service, an exciting benefit to Aeroplan Super Elite® and Executive First® customers around the globe. Air Canada’s Concierge Service, a combination of Air Canada’s Executive First/VIP Service and Canadian Airlines’ Concierge program, adds an exciting dimension to our premium customer products. One hundred seventy Concierge agents, selected from our Customer Sales and Service group, recently completed five days of intensive training in Vancouver and Montreal, facilitated by the Air Canada Organisational Training team and the International Concierge Institute. Topics covered included guest management, building professional relationships, team building, conflict resolution, and policy and procedure review. Concierge agents are trained to provide premium customers with the reward and recognition of personalised service, with attention to detail, to enhance their travel experience with Air Canada. Reporting to Marketing, the service is currently available at 16 bases in South America, Europe, Canada, the US, Asia and Australia. Service will be expanded in 2001 to nine more cities, bringing the total to 25.
I have had great experiences with the Concierge team (original CP but more recently the expanded group)at LHR and YYZ. Most recently when I missed my return flight to YYZ due to massive traffic hold-ups, they arranged for me to get a flight the next day with no penalty. On many occasions they've facilitated transit through LHR, helped with upgrades etc. 18 months ago when my mother died in the UK on my return to YYZ a concierge agent met my flight, escorted me through the crew customs/immigration desk and even went and collected a trolley for my luggage. This is a great program that is one of the major perks of EP/SE status.
