I was on AA 2750 last night from LAX-SJC, and the curtain to First Class was left open. Although I was sitting in coach, I was surprised to see a cold meal being served in First Class (keep in mind, this is a flight which is in the air for 47 minutes). I believe a choice of cold plates was offered. The one I saw had poached salmon, veggies, dressing, a biscoff cookie, and maybe more.
I think United Shuttle needs to wakeup!
BTW, when I asked for "water" as my beverage, the F/A handed me the entire bottle of Evian! The bottle is currently sitting in my refrigerator, still half full.

What U.S. domestic carriers call 'first class' is really a glorified coach product. It does not even come close to international business class standards, much less international first class.
Once you think of domestic F as Y+ then it will meet your expectations much more often.
Compared to European business class the seating/legroom in domestic first class is better, the food & service (better/same/worse) depending on route, mood of flight crew, etc. 3-class transcon is excluded from this comparison. I'm surprised to hear this. I fly this route every 2 weeks and have never seen anything but snack mixes and nuts offered up front. Not to matter really--I don't think I'd want to scarf something down in such short a time.
But I'm not surprised about the curtain. I don't think I've ever seen it not open.
