I have read all of the postings on how the LAX/HNL service is sometimes "less that desired" with the old DC 10s. However, I am interested in sending my parents to Hawaii from YYZ in May. I am tempted to stay away from the LAX connection, so I was wondering if the service from ORD or DFW is any better? All I can see is that they are selling them as 2-class on a 767.
Comments please http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks for the advice Honu.
Actually, I just got off the phone and booked it for them....I originally called for availability but ended up booking it. I ended up with:
AA 419 YYZ/ORD 6EF
AA 73 ORD/HNL 5HJ
AA 102 HNL/DFW 2HJ
AA 490 DFW/YYZ 4AB
So, I got both of the major hubs but stayed away from LAX/SJC (due to all the horrow stories I have read here in the past). AA ends food service on ALL domestic flights (incl. Hawaii) - Page :: AA ends food service on ALL domestic flights (incl. Hawaii) Let's face it, the public prefers crappy & cramped service .. The ORD/HNL is the one I am worrying about the most since, you are right, it is a very long trip. There is no terminal change in ORD or DFW (right now, that is http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif) However, the inflight entertainment should keep them occupied. Now...
Are the DVDs available on either HNL leg? Or are they stuck with mainscreen entertainment?
Since I am not with them, will they be granted Admiral's Club access? I have a membership, so I never really paid attention.

I'm afraid the answer is no on both counts... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif, but who knows, by next May...?
I think 763's are an improvement over the old DC10's, but AA's service to the Islands leaves a lot to be desired (yes, I know, it's not a lucrative biz route, etc., etc.).
I guess it is time to turn on the charm and try to get some free passes http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif
Thanks though!

DrHowser,
it's all 2-class 763 by now (not 100% sure about ORD-HNL, as I flew it last time in June, but it should be 763 by the spring). The 1st class seats have footrests (but the pitch is still not so great). I personally prefer to break the trip in LAX than in DFW, especially for the Islands-bound portion. From YYZ, they wouldn't have to change terminals in LAX (they might have to in DFW or ORD), and the trip is broken more or less evenly in two roughly five-hour fligths. On the return, they could fly either to ORD or DFW and try to get more sleep, as those are longer flights. Or you could pay a bit more for the tix, and have them stop over in LAX or SFO and spend the night at an airport hotel there (highly recommended). Of course, if you use award tix, the stopover is free. If they fly to OGG instead of HNL, LAX is best avoided, as they fly a 757 from there(it's a 763 from DFW). Avoid SJC too, if you can, for the same reason.
