I have a working interview in a few days at a vet clinic and one of my previous work experiences was at a different vet clinic that I did not like and quit but didn't give them two weeks i just left a note thanking them for the opportunity they gave me and that i was unsatisfied with the job. Of the four people hired including myself, three quit before the 3 month mark. The veterinarians/vet techs were awful and so were the managers of the hospital. I understand it's business but they seemed to be more focused on making money than actually helping people's pets. Also I was only there for little over 3 months. This was a year and a half ago and since then i have worked at another hospital as a kennel tech and they seemed much nicer and they had plenty of business. Will the vet clinic i am trying to get a job at now not hire me if they get a bad reference from this clinic? Is there a way of explaining the situation without being unprofessional?
It's best just to be totally honest with them, but you should choose your words wisely so you don't come off as arrogant or as if you're putting the other clinic down. I'm not sure how the vets and techs were "awful" so I can't really help you come up with the wording... But as long this place is aware that you left on the terms you did, a less than favorable reference won't come off as a surprise, and they'll know that you're honest. Do you have other good references? As long as you have several other people that will give you a good rap, the other place shouldn't be a concern.
