hi ...
I want to ask you about if i but my site on AMD Opetron 4 CPU with 8GB Ram ...
How Much User Can Server Take ?
Note : Cookie Is 900 ...
Thank You ..
there's a few things to note:
1. vB user online concurrently is based on default 15 min or 900 second cookie time out and is different from mysql concurrent connections ( max_connections/max_used_connections limit)
2. vB currently only can use mysql as a backend but later there will be ports to sybase and postgresql way after vB 3.x has been publicly released
3. MySQL regardless of forum software, provided it has the right hardware and mysql, php and apache configuration is good for theoretically 1000 - 1500 and even 4,000 mysql concurrent connections (4,000 with the mysql staticly compiled rpm binaries)
4. this means you can have 1000 vB users online displayed but they actually can use 200 - 700 concurrent mysql max connections since vB shows those 1000 vB users over 15 mins / 900s and not the exact same second, you can have any combination My Webb Guy:: Solutions $2500 - $5000. i.e.
300 members + 700 guests = 1000 vb users online past 15 min, with only 300 - 500 mysql concurrent connections in use
or
500 members + 500 guests = 1000 vb users online past 15min, with 500 - 800 mysql concurrent connections in use
both examples show 1,000 vb users online past 15mins but the latter example could place more load on the server due to more mysql concurrent connection usage
5. hardware isn't the only aspect which determines vB performance, you have to have apache, php and mysql configured optimally - left unoptimised especially mysql's configuration, then even the most powerful hardware will not perform well
6. if you set your vB timeout cookie higher than default 15 mins, you will show more vB users online - so set timeout cookie in vB admin panel to 30 mins, then the vB user online display will show users on in the past 30 mins thereby inflating the vB user online display - generally the higher the cookie timeout, the higher the vB users online to mysql concurrent connections ratio
Generally from working with 100s of large vB forums over past 4yrs:
- around 250-350 mysql concurrent connections your looking at dual cpu server at least mid range specs dual p4 2.4-2.8ghz xeons or dual opteron 240-242 (the better of the 2) TANDBERG | Support:: Online Support. - around 300-450 mysql concurrent connections you're looking to plan to split to 2x dual cpu server setup where you have a dedicated web server connected to a dedicated mysql database server
- at around 600-900+ mysql concurrent connections minimum spec would be 2x dual cpu server setup with at least dual p4 3.4-3.6ghz xeons and 4GB of ram on mysql server or better performance to price ratio http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=160103 dual opteron 250 cpus with scsi disks in raid 10
Remember this is mysql concurrent connections not vB users online as explained above.
So 2,500 vB users online can be anything depending on the usage patterns of the users online...
you'd be better of splitting to 2x dual opteron cpu servers with 4GB ram min on each server so one handles web and one handles mysql database
maybe web = dual opteron 250 cpus with 4GB ram
maybe mysql server = dual opteron 265 (dual core cpu = 4 cpus) with 4-8GB ram and 15k scsi raid 10 array
But My Problem Not with the MySQL Server ...
Now I Have 2 * Opetron 246 with 4 GB Ram For Each ...
The MySQL Server Is Good But The Apache Is Going Down ..
Load Is Going From 5 To 60 In Secounds
If I Open An Ticket Can vB check my Server
exact server specs ? traffic that web server handles ? number of sites ? number of vB forums ? info asked at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70117 ? all needed :)
