Even when I try to view it in original view mode, the file is displayed at a "stretched" 16:9 ratio.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
The resolution is on "Autoswitch between 16x9 and 4x3" - normally that should be OK, no?
Before, when using previous versions, I never had problems with screen ratios, it was always automatic. Since version 2, I'm always having ratio issues... It sounds like your TV is displaying it in 16x9. Check the video player resolution in Settings->Video.
Cheers,
Jonathan
If the picture is stretched, but xbmc says its in "normal mode", then your TV is likely stretching the image. Not xbmc.
Having the exact same issue with the 1.9.07 build.
Full screen vids are not playing at proper aspect ratio and are stretched. I have to use the Y button to get them to proper aspect ratio.
By the way is there any way to simulate the Y button on the xbox remote control? Not sure how to do it in the keymap.xml file.
I'm having a similar problem - I converted part of my dvd collection to xvid on my PC, they play back on the PC in widescreen, but XBMC plays them back in 4:3 with black bars on either side. Is there a way to have it automatically play back videos in 16:9?
Thanks.
Thanks for the remote tip.
However, the 4:3 issue still remains.
In previous versions you didn't get black bars on 4:3 content. Is there a way to automatically have 4:3 fill the screen as your tv usually sorts out the aspect ratio?
I have no absolutely no problems with 4:3 videos on my 16:9 tv. I get black bars on the left and right when in normal mode (my default) until I manually switch Xbmc into 14:9 mode (which is really a partial zoom, partial stretch mode.)
stop setting the xvid par flag incorrect? that will certainly help
Forgive me, I'm completely new to video encoding, and am using some "Super DVD Ripper" app I found through 5 mins of googling. Where would I normally find this option, or do you know if it can be changed with some app once the video has been made?
Thanks mate.

I think you press the select button to switch between video modes on the remote

That is exactly what I'm after - any ideas what I'm doing wrong? ??? Shall I try a different build of XBMC? :confused2:
Zarki, I had the exact same prob after upgrading. This fixed it:
When I play videos, they display using the wrong aspect ratio, what can I do to fix this?
XBMC has built-in aspect ratio control, as well as zoom control. This can be changed by use of the "Y" button on the controller or the "Select" button on the DVD-Remote during video playback. When you press "Y" button on the controller or the "Select" button on the DVD-Remote you will also see which resolution it is using. If you find your 4x3 movies play on your 16x9 screen stretched out, instead of with black bars either side of the image, it may be that you have selected "Auto" as the video output resolution in the Video Player settings, and your TV does not auto-switch to it's 4x3 mode. Set it to 16x9 in this case. See Movie Playback and OSD for more information.
I spent the last week trying to find the source of the problem - it's not the TV. It seems like XBMC simply doesn't like full screen format - it automatically displays any other format (even some of those weird ones) but when it comes to full screen, the picture is stretched no matter what I do. When I use a DVD player or cable TV, full screen is displayed properly on the TV.
Any ideas?
