The reason why we (Christians) try to prove there is a God is because we belive it is something to fight for. As an atheist, what do you have to fight for? Why do you try endlessly to prove the nonsexistance of God?

they need to feel important, like they can really have a positive affect on the world with ranting
some might need to disprove god so they can be free to an irrational lust over the same sex
There's this 13 year old kid in Portland, Moscow or Barcelona. He's struggling with his homosexual feelings and is scared to come out of the closet. The moment he'll come out of the closet, he's in for a life of hell. Why? Because some ancient book tells us that some sort of imaginary god hates gay people. At least that's what billions of people believe.
I'm fighting for the happiness of that kid. Which means more to me than your fight for the existence of an amoral god.

You can be an atheist, and you don't need to feel guilty about it. I certainly can't prove there's no God -- although a christian, caring god, .. There do not seem to be many people on this site coming from that background.

It's ok though - God said it'd be like this. I just really feel sorry for them - what a sad thing to think that this life is as good as it gets and not to understand the beauty of this earth was created by something far greater than us.

I don't think it is the job for Christians to prove there is a God. In fact, I think it is counterproductive because when we try and fail, then we give credence to the atheistic idea that proof of God is important.
When we reject God, we get to take over His role. We become the only authority over how we live our lives. We get to do what we feel like doing and there is no higher authority to tell us otherwise. Atheists don't reject God because of lack of evidence, they reject God because God's position is already taken.
I don't feel such a need. If you want to believe in an invisible man who lives in the sky, go right ahead.
Because you are in the clutches of a myth, and we want to free you from it so that you can live your life the way it was meant to be lived, instead of living it by the rules of ancient lunatics and drunks.

I would take issue with your statement that Xians try to prove god. They do not. They mainly argue that he has to be accepted on faith. When they argue for god's existence, it is not proof that they offer but simply rhetoric. The bar has always been set at an impossible level, because god is never something that can be tested for. Frankly, I've never tried to prove the non existence of god. In my mind, something that can not be tested for, either directly or indirectly does not exist.

Do you try to prove Hanuman the Hindu monkey god does not exist? If you are a Christian, you fight against all gods, besides yours. Well, I just take it one step further and fight against yours too. It is important to anyone to know whether any given gods exist. Surely you can see that. I want to know the truth, not just pretend whatever I want to believe is true. Can you honestly say the same thing? What do you have to say to try to prove that your deity exists? Thomas Aquinas gave a detailed proof, but it is illogical. Richard Dawkins refutes it well in "The God Delusion". Other Christian scholars , besides Thomas Aquinas, have tried, but no one has succeeded. I fight against Christians trying to force their religion upon everyone. I fight against preachers becoming wealthy by conning people in selling them tickets to a phony heaven. I fight my sister who is a Christian and attends churches 3 times a week and then steals, extorts, slanders and even tries to kill people to take their property. Richard Dawkins proved that people are better off without imaginary gods. He is fighting harder than the rest of us. Our fight is against stupidity, ignorance and tyranny of religions. Well, any good atheist knows thee is no such thing as proving something doesn't exist. It is up to YOU, the one making the claim, to prove there IS a god, which you cannot do.
So you believe there is a god because it's something to fight for??? So you just make up reasons to fight? So it's OK for me to murder people because I believe in comfortable bowling shoes?
You're really making the argument AGAINST religion when you say that religion gives you a reason to fight.
The same reason jehovah's witnesses try to convert people.
why must they care? Because they believe the more christians there are in the world, the better it will be.
Same with atheists except we have a slightly different look on it.
we believe the more atheists there will be, the more people will come to grip with reality and start to take responsibility for their own actions, instead of asking forgiveness all the time.
Plus, I think if there's a president that doesn't believe soldiers will go to heaven when they die, he will be a little less willing to get them KILLED!

and we do not try to prove there is no god. you cant prove a negative, its logically impossible because we cant be everywhere at once. just like how you cant prove that santa clause, mermaids, and fire-breathing dragons dont exist. you just discredit them because you cant prove that they do exist.
the burden of proof always lies with the person making the positive statement, in every case not just religious ones.
