its possable if they are small and the same size, also depending on how agressive the piranah is. never done it before but i herd of it being done.
I have two Red-bellied Piranhas and had a Paucu in the same tank. (HAD A PAUCU) The pacuc was bigger than my piranhas but after a two weeks, I feed them a goldfish and when they got the taste of blood it was over 4 the goldfish and the paucu. sad but cool !!! the hole thing was over in less than couple of seconds.
Yes he can until the piranhas are about 3-4 inches then they will start to pick at him and eat him.
Sure, but have you seen how large pacus get? Like 3 feet long. Youd need a massive tank being these are both schooling fish.
Piranhas arent the fish everyone thinks they are. You can actually put your hands in the tank to clean and move ornaments with them...
Pacu can be great tankmates for piranhas actually. Only problem is, a pacu needs something more along the lines of a heated pond than a tank. They grow too big for you to keep, and shouldn't even be sold to people who can't properly take care of it.
Yeah, piranhas aren't that vicious at all. I've put my hand in a tank full of them quite a number of times. The only way they'll bite you usually is if you do something idiotic.
To the first answerer: I didn't know the amazon was a lake... For some reason I doubt you were ever there considering piranhas generally come from the Amazon RIVER.
The piranha has sharp teeth for ripping apart prey. The pacu has dull, almost humanlike teeth because they are herbivores. Yahoo! son, nothin can be housed with piranahas.
have you seen the things?
i went to the amazon and there was this giant lake there were so many that they were frothing
scary
not sure, possibly, they are related. the pirahna has sharper teeth and a more bulldogish appearance, where the pacu is less aggressive and has more blunt teeth. I guess You could try and see.
The piranha would eat the pacu. Even if the pacu were much bigger, the piranhas would bite chunks out of it and bite off its fins and probably its eyes.
Pacus are vegetarians; they could never match the piranha's predatory aggression.
In any case, the question is academic, because pacus are too big for any home aquarium. Those suckers grow to about four feet long, almost as tall from back to belly, and hundreds of pounds in weight.
I wouldn't, the pirahna could look upon the pacu as a tasty snack. Also be warned, pacu grow huge, upto 76cm/30" so make sure you have a tank that is big enough before buying one.
Pirahna could eat the pacu if it is fairly small, in the wild these fish will predate upon small specimens of their own species, and they will do the same in aquariums.
