I was checking out the neutral density filters at adorama.com and noticed that they have digital neutral density filters as well the ... non-digital??? What's the difference? Sounds gimmicky to me but maybe someone can prove me wrong.
I was told by our local photo shop that the digital ones have more coatings to prevent light flares in digital cameras. I thought it was a gimmick also. I just bought a regular circular polarizer with no problems so far.

You could just skip the filter and do this.

I like messing in PS so this is actually fun for me. Some people may prefer to screw on a filter.
Sometimes you do need the filter, though. I was shooting a waterfall and I had my aperture as small as I could get it but still to properly meter I couldn't do more than a 1/2-sec shot. A good ND filter would've helped a lot there.
It's not gimmiky it's marketing. There's a clear difference, you can find exact details in the financial reports for the company ;)
That would be a regular nd not a graduated nd.

this sounds ..... stupid to me ;)
the rear coating of a lens might be of some effect, to prevent reflections between that real lens element and the sensor, but the filter is just on the other side ;) Photo Term Series #18: Graduated Neutral Density Filter | JMG :: Graduated Neutral Density filters in essence are plastic or glass filters with Hard and Soft Graduated Neutral Density Filters courtesy of Ron Niebrugge http://www.jmg-galleries.com/blog/2008/08/06/photo-term-series-18-graduated-neutral-density-filter/HOME | How to use a Graduated Neutral Density Filter:: This is a quick discussion on why Graduated Neutral Density filters are the limitations of how much can be recorded on film or with digital sensors. http://www.nathangriffin.com/technical/how_to_graduated_nd.htmHOME |
