  • Barthez made number 1 L'Equipe and Eurosport are saying.

I do not get why Coupet loses out once again....

  • No surprises right? Since when is Chimbonda international?

    from today...that's the surprise.

  • I would have liked to have seen Anelka there.

    No Anelka, Giuly, Pires.

Ribery was called up thankfully, even if he doesn't play he is the future of French football and should be involved NOW and get the experience for the next tournaments.

  • even thou i think the squad is fairly strong
im dissapointed that he didnt pick guily, pires and i guess anelka...

guily is probably the biggest surprise, he has been playing so well lately.

pires has also been on form and playing well.

anelka...dont see anything of him to know for sure, but he always performs.

i dont really like this french coach.

    but thats just me :)

  • Barthez made number 1 L'Equipe and Eurosport are saying.

  • Domenech is such an idiot. I really didnt expect pires or anelka to be on the team, but giuly certainly deserve to be there. What a freaking idiot. Barthez the starting keeper. Again what an ididot. you mean to tell me that coupet is not clearly the better keeper. I dont care about experiencce. Coupet is by a mile better then barthez now. If i wasnt a die hard fan of france i seriously could not even support them because of this idiot decision, but of course i like my team and will support them no matter what.

  • I do not know and have not seen many of these players, so forgive my ignorance. I find it interesting that Domenich chose 6 mids - two of which, Viera and Makelele are basically defensive and play the same position, and 6 strikers.

It strikes me that if he intends on playing a traditional 4 mid formation, France will lack depth, especially given the age of Zidanne (as the accepted wisdom of the World cup as being a young man's game due to the tightly scheduled games).

So, for the informed (me), what formation will France play and who do you folks see as the starters in WC2006?

    Thanks

  • from today...that's the surprise.

ow LOL...well he deserves it i think. He's one of the most wanted RB's in the world!

  • What the ******** is Boumsong doing on there?

    And I just saw Dhorasoo.

  • The only problem of the France squad is DOMENECH.

French players are the best of Europe, but Domenech take strange decisions.

¿Why Barthez, Boumsong and Chimbonda gonna be in the WC?

¿Why Méxes, Pires, Giuly, Micoud and Zebina are not gonna be in the WC?

I can understand the Zidane case, because he was a great midfielder years ago, and he is a "symbol", but let out Giuly, Pires or Micoud, I can't understand it.

  • No surprises right? Since when is Chimbonda international?

  • How does Boumsong continue to get into your squad? He was horrible against us in qualification and is the worst defender to play for Newcastle since....well, since Titus Bramble. Bad example.

Anyway, good luck in Germany :)

  • Anelka and Giuly were not picked. The most controversial choice is Barthez ahead of Coupet as the number 1 GK.

  • Barthez made number 1 L'Equipe and Eurosport are saying.

Domenech said that unfortunately. : <

  • Finally he's done it.

Coupet should've been the No.1. The end of discussion.

http://www.eurosport.fr/football/mondial/2006/sport_sto884902.shtmlStill a strong squad that, still got the likes of Zidane (even though he's retiring) Henry, Trezeguet, Gallas, Makelele, Thuram, Coupet

We will play with Vieira & Makélélé.
    Diarra as substitute.

There is really 7 mids & 5 forwards
    Because Ribery is a midfielder.

I think the formation will be:

    --------------Barthez---------------
    -Sagnol---Thuram----Gallas---Abidal-
    -----------Vieira----Makélélé--------
    --Wiltord--------------------Zidane--

But for the forwards, I don't know... we have the choice.

    Henry / Saha
    Henry / Trezeguet
    Henry / Cissé

    Or Henry alone....

  • Putain la pression monte .......

  • I wrote a relatively long reaction message in French to a soccer group I belong to (mostly pals, and pals of pals, and pals of pals of pals). Don't have the time to translate it into English, but if you read French and care to take a look, I posted it in the "Discussion du football français en français" thread under the general "France" forum. Reactions (both positive and negative) always welcome here in English or there in French.

    Major points:

    - Overall, it's a strong squad. Knowing Domemech, he could have done a lot worse.

    - GK 1-2: I know I'm going to get a hard time for this, but the choice of Barthez over Coupet as number 1 is fine by me. They're both great keepers; and Barthez with a majority of public opinion against him will want to show everybody he's still number 1. He works best under pressure and he's going to prove it.

    - GK 3: I see Frey as slightly better than Landreau, but it really doesn't matter much.

    - Defense: You could argue for Mexes over Givet but there's not much difference in class between the two. Boumsong had a horrible season, but who else? Silvestre is better than he was 2 years ago. In any case, there's a clear hierarchy in this defense: 4 starters who'll get the job done (Sagnol, Thuram, Gallas, Abidal) and 4 decent (if not great) subs.

    - Midfield: Ribéry is a good choice if only for the future. Dhorasoo is the problem: he takes a spot that should have gone to either Pires, Giuly or Micoud. What a big freakin' waste (I elaborate on this in my post in French).

    - Forwards: Only mild surprise is Saha over Anelka. Good surprise if you ask me--with the caveat that I haven't seen Anelka play this year (just a few highlights)... But Saha's had a good second part ofthe season. He'll be a valuable sub at min. 75 when we need a goal.
