I'm planning on changing the engine oil in my bike and was going to use Silkolene or Mobil - but which one? I have been advised it is a semi synthetic oil but wanted to check first before purchasing. I think the answer here is "How much do you intend to thrash the engine?" I think that per litre you can pay far too much for an over-priced oil like Motul or Silkolene, whereas the bike's maker may simply recommend a specific grade, say 10w/40 or 15w/40. What does your owners manual recommend? We don't have the CB500 here in Canada so I can't see the owners manual, but I would guess it's probably conventional oil, Some of the synthetics and high performance oil is too slick for the wet clutch to function properly
