    No trolling please.

Adult discussion and all the rest of that crap.

Me predicition is 1-1. Frei for the Swiss and Henry for Les Bleus.

France's dodgy attack will come into force on Tuesday. I hope I am wrong.

  • who the hell is the fiver

il reste ke trois quart d'heures

    bon, je me sens positif...
ALLEZ LA FRANCE, ALLEZ PASCAL, ALLEZ CHIRAC EN 2007!!! :D

  • I can't believe we fear the Swiss side ! Wow, that already tells a lot about our confidence...:(

Well the Swiss, if they pass the first round, will surprised a lot of people, if of course they keep on playing the way they played until now.
They're not the Swiss we played three years ago, and we're not the France of 2000 either so...

I think it'll be hard to get out of this group to be honest. Everyone says we have a strong defense, but they are often dodgy, we didn't get that many goal because our opponents were clumsy or we were too lucky. Against better opposition, the balls will be in.

  • Allez Les Bleus!

    Regards,

    Grell

  • Zizou must also step up to the plate and do something here.

And maybe Henry can reproduce his club form just once?

or maybe 3 times? or is that too much to ask... :p

  • How the hell can Swizterland win a yacht race?

Its like Barbados winning a skiing tournament.

  • the good news is that we'll play a 4-2-3-1.

    Barthez
    Sagnol--Thuram--Gallas--Abidal
    Vieira--Makelele
    Wiltord----Zidane----Ribéry
    Henry

the bad news is that it took raymond la science so long to come to his senses that it will be the first time so this match will be dress rehearsal and opening night rolled into one.

the good news is that ribéry is starting.

the bad news is that it's in malouda's spot.

looking at portugal last night, i wondered "if figo can look that good, why can't zidane.

but maybe he will! call me crazy but i have a good feeling about this match!

This is the very same thought I had this morning when I read "l'équipe" thuis morning on my way to work. Finally, Raymundo has come to his sense. But the move was predictable when he decided to call up Govou as a substitute for Cissé. Govou being a right flank specialist.

I am, as you are, a bit disappointed by Malouda's lack of form/injury (???) but seeing Ribery on the pitch as a starter is something we have been all dreaming for, haven't we? Let's see if he'll live up to our expectations. But I also have a good feeling about this prospect. I hope Vieira will improve his playing and Wiltord will not disappoint. Domenech is taking risks here, but actually, I like this very much.

  • agreed, a draw looks to be most likely. We had problems attacking China let alone the Swiss, who are much more formidable. If our defense maintains, we should be able to get something positive from the match, but i'm not too optimistic.

besides, draws against the swiss seem to be our favorite result

  • Well I disagree I predict 1-0 or 2-0 our win. We played Switzerland during the qualifying sessions, I think we will play better in this one. And besides when the hell did the Swiss instill fear in their opponents? Perhaps we are erratic in our game play, but I don't fear the Swiss side. Enough said!

  • Well I think France can win it but as I said before it'll be tight.

    Grell

  • well if the fiver says this, we have a fighting chance!

STARS HAVE THEIR MOMENT THEN THEY DIE

You will be jeered for your beliefs and your practices. Your team will be booed by its own fans in many of its qualifiers and most of its pre-tournament friendlies. Your relationship with your long-time partner, a TV presenter and the mother of your child, will be the subject of much sniggering and sniping from the jealous national media. You are Raymond Domenech, the argumentative, astrology-loving, deeply unpopular manager of France. And today's alignment of Ur@nus, Saturn and the Sky Sports satellite in the Narnia quadrant suggests that, contrary to what the D:Ream proclaimed, things can only get worse.

For despite your hasty decision to bow to public pressure and throw exciting Marseille youngster Franck Ribery into the starting line-up for today's World Cup opener against Switzerland, Les Bleus will be beaten. True, the inclusion of Ribery means you've decided to shunt Patrick Vieira back into the middle rather than persist with playing him on the right of midfield, where he'd been about as effective as a pigeon in a c0ck-fight. But that doesn't change the fact that Vieira and fellow starters Zinedine Zidane, Lilian Thuram and Fabien Barthez are, like Mother Duck's errant offspring, over the hill and far away.

"That's unfair and unpleasant," protested Zidane in vain today. "You journalists said the same thing before '98, in fact it was worse then," continued Zizou, failing to identify the bozo who'd claimed he was washed up at the age of 25. "But you'll see, I'm super-confident we'll be in Berlin on July 9."

The Fiver, meanwhile, is super-confident that the buccanneering young Swiss will prove Domenech right to fret earlier this month that "they know how to beat us; I'm having nightmares about this game." And that tricky 21-year-old Tranquillo Barnetto will eclipse France's fading stars; and that Alexander Frei will notch the first of the goals that's going to see us collect on our judicious 150-1 gamble on him to be the tournament's top scorer; and that you bas***** will bombard us with sneering emails if this all turns out to be horribly wrong.

  • OK guys...Defeat ist Verboten !!!

Hey, my mum lives in Switzerland, do you you imagine what I'll have to go through ? Huh ? I mean, there was this time when the guy who checks tickets in the train noticed I came from Saint-Malo and told me : "Vous venez pour la voile ?" (reference to team Alinghi's victory in the America's Cup ; well, got to see the homecoming of the trophy in Geneva actually). WTF !!? The 'Route du Rhum' starts from my hometown and you're lecturing me on sailing ? I say Nooooooooooooo ! Zidane&co, if you don't do it for you, do it for me, please...:o

    Aux armes !!!

Wow christmas has come early this year guys. I can definately envision a 1-0 or 2-0 victory for les bleus now.

  • well, they do have all those lakes

  • I'm looking at Vieira and thinking to myself: You have to play well here and get forward. Because otherwise, Zizou has got no support in the centre of the park.

He has looked lost in the centre at times, both he and Makelele seem unaware of eachother and don't know when to cover their own arses. Vieira needs a bit more creative freedom.

Zizou must also step up to the plate and do something here.

And maybe Henry can reproduce his club form just once?

  • After everything we've had to go through with Raymundo, I think that finally, and for the first time, we are fielding the best team and formation we can (with the exception of an injured Malouda of course). The 4-5-1, or 4-3-3 as Guignol likes to call it :), is perfect for our team. The key is and always will be to stay tight in the back, and explode on the counter. Guys with pace like Ribery and Henry will create all sorts of trouble for the Suisse, and Wiltord's workrate will be a bonus. Zidane is going to be more effective as well, being that he'll have no work to do defensivly with Maka and Vieira playing right behind him.

Hasn't he already started doing it every time he played with Ribery?

Granted, those were preparation matches but think of it this way: as excited as WE all are to see this new line-up imagine how the PLAYERS must be feeling....stoked I'll bet!
