My 2nd cousin is a single father of triplets and they just turned one week old. (His wife passed during childbirth). He's bringing them home from the hospital tomorrow and wants to know how much formula (per day) he should feed each of them? He's going to be using the 2 oz ready to feed nursettes. I also wanted to get an idea of how much baby food we should feed them. Nobody can help us with this so were turning to Yahoo answers. Thankfully, he's financially secure enough to take a few years off from work to take care of them and thankfully he'll have Yahoo answers whenever he needs help :)
he should ask at the hospital, but they send enough formula home to last them for a few days, you will want to have formula on hand for them to make it easier, you don't really want to take them out to the store, everyone wants to touch babies, congrats, i'm sorry to hear about cousin's wife though, my son did well to eat an ounce per feeding when we first brought him home, of course he ate like every hour and 15 minutes too, then he went to more and he's never stopped, good luck, it's nice you are going to help, that's really sweet, good luck Baby Food Review: Most Important Do's & Don'ts:: If a baby food review should only do 3 things for your baby, they would be making Do take advice and ensure that the formula you use is designed for a baby at the . well we just brought home our daughter and the nurses told us that by one week she should be eating between 50ml-60ml per feeding and we should feed every 2-3hrs for breast milk and ~2.5hrs-3.5hrs for formula. Since formula is harder to digest and stays with the child longer. But if the kids are hungrier then dont hold back, give them what they want. But in the end you should expect like 5-8 dirty and wet diapers a day. Plus you will see a doctor at 2 weeks and they will tell you if your children are gaining weight good.
No baby is exactly the same. None of my kids have eaten the exact same amount as the one before...and I have worked in childcare a long time and none of those kids were the exact same.
Babies at that age providing they are healthy and eating at a "usual" rate will eat between 2-4 ounces every feeding. Each feeding being between 3 and 6 hours spaced. Now of course you have the babies who eat smaller amounts more frequently and even the babies who eat larger amounts more frequently.
By the time they are about two months most babies are eating at least 4 ounces every few hours.
He wont start feeding them food until at least four months...some pediatricians recommend waiting until 6 months and that again it will depend with the baby. By that point if he is lucky he will have a schedule down with them as far as feeding. how much formula and cereal should a 3 month old baby eat?:: 4 posts - 4 authors - Last post: Nov 26, 2007How to Formula Feed Your Baby. As far as how much food I make my own baby food and go by tablespoons with my kids...but he should start with about a half jar of size two mixed in with a little rice cereal a day and then move up to giving that 3 times per day over the course of a month or two.
He probably isnt getting the answers hes looking for from other places because there is no guarantees and he is just going to have to learn that parenting there are no set molds and promises...he will figure out what to do best with his babies
If the babies are still in the hospital, he should be asking the babies' doctors these kinds of questions, especially since they were probably born slightly smaller (multiples tend to be premature and have different needs). Yahoo answers should not be your 1 stop source for answers for his childrens lives...that's what professionals are for, especially since he has access to them right now.
Obviously i would advise you to talk to health professionals but in my experience with to small babies both weighing under 5lb i would feed on demand if they are taking 2oz offer them in bottles of 3oz and roughly i would say 6-8 bottles a day each so around 16 oz each each day
Oh wow, that's such a sad story to hear... made me tear up for a second.
I don't think there's really any set amount for babies to be fed, in my opinon. I've always just fed on demand. As long as they're gaining weight properly, that's all that matters.
Formula (or breastmilk, but in this case, formula) should be the main source of nutrition for the first year. Solids, such as jarred baby food... or home made baby food, can be introduced at 6 months. Even then, its really not a necessity, mostly just for practice.
Gosh... thats rough. I hope he makes it through everything! I'm sure he'll be a great daddy!
