Do you need 10% of all of your BEST ANSWERS to be in one category?
Or is there another criteria? I've read some on it, but I still don't understand.
It is about percentage in ANY category.
You become a Top Contributor by answering a lot of questions and get a high percentage of Best Answers in a particular category
While the exact formula for getting a TC badge is Y!A secret. it's a general belief that to get a TC badge you need to have at least 10% or more Best Answer overall first - then, IF you also have over 10% BA in a particular category, you will get a TC badge.

It means that, even if you have 10% BA say - for example, in Singles and dating category, but your overall percentage is not as high (because you also answered questions in other categories as well) then you would NOT get a TC badge.

I got my badge when I got to 9%. Yes you have to get lots of best answers in one category of your choice and stick to it as often as possible. You are also allowed to vote for your own answer as best too if you want to, it is perfectly legal.

No, you can have 10% of your best answers percentage on one or 3 categories. To get a TC (Top Contributor) badge or become an Top Contributor: you need more than 10% of your best answers percentage on any category (Up to 3) EXCEPT Polls & Surveys and also Jokes & Riddles (Since all the questions on those categories are random and don't require a lot of information) and maintain 200 or more points a week (Total combination of active contribution and best answers). you can receive it on Monday morning if you are eligible to get it. you can be on any level to get it. also, I heard that 40-45 best answers in 30 days on one or more categories will get you to have the badge. also, it does NOT depend on how many points you have, level you are on and total best answers you have to get the TC badge! also, you can get the Top Contributor badge on any level. Once you have it, you have to be an active answerer because the badge isn't permanent, so you gain it or lose it either way. so keep answering questions and have a lot of best answers on the category you answer the most! You will be an Top Contributor in no time! Good Luck if you want to be one and I hope I get to see you with an Top Contributor badge! here is my tips to be one: Just focus on one or more categories, earn at least 200 points a week, give great honest answers to the questions that you know, not short answers like "idk, thanks for the 2 points". that won't work. Try to put up at least 10% of your best answers percentage, always try to do your best on that question and and always be helpful to the asker. there are some TCs that are not very helpful and always wants the 2 points for answering.
