Judging from Ribery's first (although brief) performance against Mexico, he may be the spark in France's attack to reignite some creativity for the team.
France's movement and style going forward has been STALE for too long. With Sagnol and Abidal sticking to their current wingback postions and someone other than Cisse partnering up front France may be able to get the momentum it needs to start scoring goals again.
Ribery was the most dangerous attacker on the field and had he played in the first half along side Zidane, Vieira and Trezeguet things could have been pretty exciting.
If France insists on playing with 2 defensive mids then its essential to bring something extra to the attacking formation or else France will continue to struggle against teams that are content to sit back and absorb the pressure and then counter-attack.

I hate to say but I think France may be a more effective and lively side with Ribery in for Zidane. The guy has huge potential.

You may be right about the youngster's ability to play dynamite football for 90 minutes but what I think seems positive is that whereas Malouda gets on well with Abidal for obvious reasons, Ribery really tries to build up attacks with Zidane and Henry, therefore it provides more pace at the front, not in the midfield. His ability to defend is all right for me as long as he doesn't get too much pressure and loses his nerves, but he will listen hard to ZZ's guidelines on the pitch, imo. On the right flank, Wiltord can be impressive and utterly efficient. I am only concerned with his ability to communicate on the pitch with vieira and vieira's form (of course)....but the team looks pretty good to me on paper, far better than with no one to back up vieira on the right.

The reason he looks like "gold plated dynamite" an expression I've so often stole, is because he is gold plated dynamite. The pace you see from him in minute 70 when he's subbed in is the same pace you see from the guy in minute 70 when he starts. He's got an amazing motor Ribery!

Dunno, Let's say I'm sure some of the other good French managers could have made a better job...Anyway, I think he's making a decent preparation so far for les Bleus and he's smart to understand that this was one of the main reasons of our past failures.
