Does the end really justify the means? Will any good ultimately come of it?
Of course!!! We do it all the time!
We go to war, which means people get injured or killed with the means of bringing about "good" ends.
We lock up people deemed as "criminal," which is certainly "bad" for them is it not, in order to bring about "good" in the society. ~"Good" and "bad" are abstract terminological concepts, not universals or absolutes. Everything is Relativistic. What is "good" for one is often "bad" for another. that is by and large a matter of opinion.
i am of the opinion that in the absolute case the ends never justify the means.
however we see from things like the atomic bombing of hiroshima and nagasaki that killing 100,000 people could end up saving 10s of millions of people.
its true that often the only way to resolve a violent situation is to respond with violence

I will lie to keep someone from dying, yes.
People often have different views on what "good" is. Each of us has the basic right to choose for ourselves.
No, the end never has or ever will justify the means.
You can't vindicate the means if they were "bad". But if you know the end result will be good, you have to decide between your own personal comfort in doing bad things and the duty to achieve a good result. Being a soldier is a good example.
Conversely, doing good things often leads to a bad end. Should doing good things be condemned if the end result is "bad"?
Never. Deceit can not be vindicated..
