There are generally 2 settings for "default screen brightness" One when it is one battery power and one for when it is plugged in. Typically battery is set to be a little dimmer than when it's plugged in, however there is nothing that keeps you from setting the brightness to lower when it's plugged in. board and motherboard Resources | TechRepublic:: Tags: battery, board, dt32@, laptop computer, main board, I powered pc up with a floppy, cdrom ,video card and memory attatched to board. freezing when it was running a program, and i had to manually shut it off everytime. Have you simply tried pressing your Fn key (usually lower left-hand corner of the keyboard) then the little symbol that looks like a sun with an up-arrow that is one one of the keys at the top of the machine (usually a F1 through F12 key)?
Laptops automatically do this to conserve battery life.
You need to change your power settings. When on battery, in the lower right hand corner of your computer (the "System Tray") find something that looks like a power cable or battery. Right click and go to properties. Under those settings, disable any power options that would cause the dimming of the screen.
Additionally, you can manually adjust your screen brightness with most model laptops. Dell laptops make use of the "Fn + Up/Down Arrow" keys. Depending on your laptop's manufacturer, you may have a similar control somewhere on your keyboard.
