| | We are trying to change him to formula so I have been breastfeeding half the time and giving him formula the other half. He is grunting and screams every once in a while like he is really trying to pass something. Is there anything I can do? I really don't want to have to switch formulas if I don't have to because I feel like he just needs a few weeks to get use to it (he is on Enfamil Lipil with Iron). Is this normal?
My daughter suffered with this a few weeks ago i was told by my midwife, health visitor and Gp to try 1oz pure orange juice to 6 oz of cbw and vaseline on the bum and that should help the pass it through
always call the doctor first, especially his age, my son could and still can only take nutramigen, good luck, please always call your doctor or the er first.
Put an infant size (1 gram) glycerine suppository in him - it'll make him do a dooey in 5-15 minutes!
Frankly I am shocked that you would post this question here instead of contacting the pediatrician. Let's say you get fifteen different answers. How do you know which one to follow? it could be the iron in the formula (iron can constipate babies) but when my son was that age he had really bad gas, and he would cream or grunt when he passed it, but only had a bowel movement every 3 or 4 days. the first time he went over 48 hours i was freaked out, but the ped. said that it was fine (he was breastfed all day and was given one bottle at night) if you're really that concerned you can ask the ped what he recommends.
Good luck!
This can be serious, call your doctor immediately.
Call your pediatrician!!
Why do people come here looking for advice for something as important as their baby's health? Dont you think it would be much better to go to the dr. and get the help from someone that knows what he is talking about? What in the world did people do before the internet? Did they run an ad in the paper asking for advice or something?
Breastfed babies alone normally have weird bowel movements, and can go up to two weeks without having a bowel movement, if I can remember correctly. However, I'm not sure how it would work if you're doing half and half... breastmilk is easier to digest, which is why it takes longer for a bowel movement... Might want to talk to your doctor, I can't remember the treatments for constipated babies that young...
