My company withheld my commission check becuase they are having cash flow problems. This is a small business with annual sales up to 2 million. I don't agree with some of the employment policies, musical chairs with unqulified people, and now this has really raised a red flag. This put me in financial distress and do not want to go through it again. The boss is away on a business trip and I plan on confronting him about it. My question is should I be looking for another position before he returns just to be prepared or hang in there and stay with a struggling company where their is no communication about growth only declining sales and bad management decisions involving money management and cash flow. I have an answer that makes sense but would love feedback from others. No doubt about it... move on. No sense in going down with the ship. It doesn't sound like the sort of company that is worth spending time and energy in. For what? The more you let non-payment slide, the more often it will happen to you. Don't hesitate or wait for anything else to happen... like downsizing which will definitely be next. Take care of yourself and any others dependent on you so your future is ensured. I'd look for another job before it becomes a crisis. Also talk to your boss about the missed check and see what he has to say, but it sounds like a company in trouble, and you could end up out of a job at any time..
