Hey. I'm 39+3 days pregnant, for last 3 days been getting back ache and cramping and shooting pain that goes down my butt and so much pressure down there in general, its getting worse everyday. I think i may go into labour soon, well within next couple days i hope. Don't know when to get in contact with hospital, should i call them and tell them my symptoms now? Pain does get quite bad sometimes, or do i leave it until i think i'm in actual labour? Its my first baby so not sure what to do, i don't want to keep bugging them. I'm in uk and they don't check if your dilated or effaced until your actually in labour so i don't have a clue if i am any of them. Any advice would be great. Thanks x

  • Trust me, you'll know when you're in labor! It's perfectly okay to call and ask, and you won't be bugging them, it's their job to help you. You don't need to go to the hospital to get checked, just call your doctor and they can squeeze you in for a quick appointment to see if you're dialated at all. When labor sets in, you'll feel start getting very regular contractions and you'll probably want to head to the hospital. Until then, walking and taking warm showers at home would probably be more comfortable.

  • Your pains could in fact be cont actions or they could just be braxton hicks contractions. If they are very irregular and spaced far apart it is probably braxton hicks or early labor. My hospital said to call when I was having contractions 6 minutes or less apart for an hour.
If contractions become regular or else you experience any water leaking or lots of discharge or mucus, go to the hospital because you are probably in labor.
You can always call and ask what they suggest, they are there to help, so it wouldn't be like you are bugging them.
