I've asked various people do tattoos hurt everyone pretty much said no one person said the first five minutes it stings and another said it just burns. I want one on each arm.

They can be painful. There are anesthetics available to help with the pain.
One is a prenumber usually a lidocane base that helps numb the skin. Once the skin is broken there is a second anesthetic that contains both lidocane and epinephrine. The epinephrine reduces bleeding and swelling while the lidocane helps keep the area numb.
They do hurt,some people like to sound cool by saying it did not hurt but everyone handle pain differently..But just think of it this way,would so many people get tattoos if they hurt that bad? ;)
Yes they do hurt a little bit, it's a stinging, burning sensation so both people you talked to were correct.
Everyone has a different pain tolerance so asking someone if getting a tattoo hurts wont do you any benefit.
Getting a needle jabbed into your skin over and over again is bound to produce some pain but how you tolerate pain will determine how you experience it (stining, burning, numbing etc) and the severity of it.
im 15 and i have 2 tattoos.
i would say they only hurt a little.
but they are wayyy more annoying than they are painful.
you just want them to stop once they start.
but once it's healed, you have forgotten all about that and you want another one.

its a tattoo....of course it hurts.... but if you want it for the rest of your life youll be in love with your new skin and its a drug you will always want more....
tattoos don't hurt. It isn't pleasurable but it is uncomfortable at best. I'd rather get a tattoo than sit on the hump in the middle of the back seat during a car trip.
It doesn't necessarily feel good (unless you are into that) but it is more burning/annoying that incredibly painful. For me, the itching during the healing was the worst part. But I have high pain tolerance and low itch tolerance.
