I got a tattoo of ivy around my wrist about a year ago. It was my first tattoo, and my first so far, so I don't have any others to compare it to. But it wasn't bad. I couldn't help jumping just a little bit when he got to the inner wrist, and when he went over the bones I had to grit my teeth, but most of the time I was able to ignore it and chat with my friends who were there with me.
It was exactly like being scratched with a needle, or being pinched with fingernails. If you've got an older brother or sister who tormented you, you'll be just fine! If you're really worried, take a couple ibuprofen or aspirin about half an hour before he starts. But you'll be just fine. Millions of people have tattoos in these locations and they didn't find the pain so bad that they had to stop. Bear the pain once, and you'll have artwork forever!
I have a tattoo of a peace sign on the inside of my wrist...it's about the size of a quarter. It was a very strong stinging sensation. So yes, it hurt, but the pain was definitely bearable and worth it! My tattoo artist said the spot where I got my tattoo was one of the most painful and I made it through alright. Oh just to let you know, after it's over, the pain is pretty much instantly gone and there is just a bit of soreness.
