I would also like to upgrade my PHP to 4.4.2. I have WHM and can go into the apache update and start the build. Question: do I need to shut down the forums in the meantime? Is there any possibility that the upgrade would adversely affect the forum? Currenntly running 3.07 but plan to upgrade as well.
Thanks!

In WHM, left hand Menu, Find "Software" then click on Apache Update. When the page loads, you will see a list of Modules and Checkboxes with a few of these checked and the remaining unchecked.
The checked ones are those which are set for a default Apache setup and MAY NOT necessarily reflect the modules which are presently running on your server. To upgrade PHP, under php module, check 4.4.1 (if not already checked) and uncheck any other versions of php. Also be sure to check GD (Version 2.0.15) because you are recompiling Apache and it's not a default installation (VB uses it). If you are running ONLY vBulletin on your server, I wouldn't worry about checking any other boxes. How do I upgrade the PHP and its modules using WHM ? - Powered By :: We might need to add some php modules or just to upgrade to a new PHP version. Then at the bottom of the page - click "Start Build".
IMPORTANT:
Take CAREFUL note of all the modules that are presently installed with Apache on your machine. Recompiling essentially nulls your existing configuration and installs only that, what is "Checked".
If you dont know how to look for the installed Modules, ask your DataCenter to provide you with a list when Apache was compiled under the present configuration.
If you don't check the right boxes, you will end up uninstalling a lot of modules from Apache and render your server software useless.
i have a vps server , full root access .
There's no need for PHP upgrade for that, APC works just fine with 4.3.11
You can always check use last config ;)
you're right he could, I should have stated it in my post.... however assuming this is the first build via WHM... he wont have the option

Yes but php 4.3.11 has a security issue, upgrading to 4.4.2 would be your best move anyway.
