What can I give my son for his cold?

  • I have a 21 lb 20 month old that has a fever of 102 and a stuffy, runny nose. Sneezing, watery eyes, lethargic, the works. I have been giving him plenty of fluids and tylenol for his fever. He won't eat anything at all. I don't want to give him any cold medicines, I just don't trust them. Is there any homeopathic remdies??? For his age and weight? And where can I find it?

  • I don't think there is any medicines you can give him... Just lots of love and Comfort! Good luck we have three and all of them have just gotten over a cold. God bless!

  • Try to get him to sip some warm chicken broth, use a humidifier, and keep an eye on his fever. I hope he feels better soon.

  • Have you ever thought of sitting in the bathroom with him while the hot shower is running. It may help lossen some things up in his chest.

  • You can try saline drops for the runny nose. JJohnson's & Johnsons makes a vapor bath that my kids love when they get sick. A humidifier may benefit you as well and you can get all this at your local drug store or Walmart.

Has he been to the Dr? With a fever of 102 I defiantly need to advise that he does, and the Dr can provide some really good alternatives for OTC meds.

    Good Luck,

  • You can use Benadryl, vapor rub, tylenol every 3 hours with motrin every other time with the tylenol for fever, vaporizer, vapor bath (johnson & johnson). If yhe can't eat or drink for >24hrs or he becomes hard to arouse from sleep, go to the ER

  • Plenty of fluids and lots of love. You have to be just as careful with herbs and other "natural" remedies because they aren't regulated by the FDA. The cold will pass, but if the fever persists into Monday, a trip to the doctor may be in order to rule out any type of bacterial infection (such as strep or ear infection). You are right in not giving any type of cold medicines. The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that they not be given to children under the age of 4.

  • You are already doing the right thing. There is nothing really that deals with a cold very well, and I think anyway this is some kind of flu, as a cold doesn't usually come with a fever.

For eats, you can try milk shakes. That's about all I can take whenever I've had the flu, because somehow they taste good, feel nice and cool, and I can keep them down easily.
