I recently started a new job with a non profit organization and I love it. I am having a slight problem, I just found out I am going to be working for almost a month before I get paid. I have had other jobs that did the "week in a hole" thing and it was explained to me that it was because of the time I started. Also they were franchises and corporations so that is some what understandable, they didn't have to sign checks that came from another state and managers/supervisors just issued them. I think I am having such a problem because this job has an in house accountant that writes their own checks and is signed by the president of the company who is in the same building. It might seem really petty but I will be working for a month before I get paid and I will still have the expenses of getting to and from, groceries, utilities, rent, etc. So please someone explain to me how this is supposed to work cause this really bothers me.
When employed, you get paid for the work you perform, and not before. I think there's no question about that, but it's all about how you get paid is the problem here.
Every company keeps track of their payroll accounting somewhat differently; some paying weekly or bi-weekly, some twice a month, others only once per month. There's just too many variables to examine to determine why here, but it all lies on the overall accounting cycle of the company. An accounting class at the college would explain many of the reasons. I would suspect, however, it has more to do with when the company receives the majority of its funding during the month, and/or what makes the company look better on the books to the directors, IRS, etc. Team with no starting pitchers!! - Fantasy Baseball Cafe 2010:: Ask for advice or simply hang out with friends in one of the best fantasy baseball forums available. http://www.fantasybaseballcafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=169973HOME | HunterRobot4 - home - Code:: We think that we should meet one time a week in a hole group, Class-1 The folder is a really good idea. Yes, it bites if paychecks are only issued on the 30th of the month and you got hired on the 3rd. It doesn't help your wallet or your stomach while you wait. Believe me, you're not the only one this has happened to; this is quite a common practice. It's not often a company will issue a paycheck to an employee off the regular cycle except in special circumstances (as if someone got fired, or was the CEO's son, etc). Because many payrolls are automated processes, a manual or special check takes additional work because it requires looking at tax tables by hand, doing manual accounting entries, etc. Franklin Morales | Rockies & Roll - Part 2:: Colorado is tied with St. Louis for the most wins in August (16). On the positive side, though, its probably good that you have a job regardless, since it seems to be tough times all around. Also, if you ever left your job, you would have one additional month of pay after you left.
Best wishes!
