  • I know the literal meaning of the word.. i wish u to expand on it.. and tell me what u mean by the word " selfless" and how important and practical is it in today's world when there r so many ready to take advantage of the so called " simple and good " people ?

    thank you.

    keep smiling :)

  • i always on giving and helping and be selfless. On the dining table let others have more if they want to consume & i am a bit less eater.People may like to have advantage over others but i also ensure not more advantages .I ensure and like those being simple and be good!

  • When you need to make a decision you will consider how it will affect any others that are effected by the decision ~~There have always been people who have thought like that ~~ I'm in my 70's and always saw this attitude ~~ Such a shame for the ones who think this ~ can not enjoy the actions of a selfless person for they won't understand what it is ~~With the ability to comunicate today and there are soooo many more people that it seems more prevalent now than ever before ~~ Just find the strength to not allow that attitude to be part of who you are~~~

  • Selfless is opposite o selfish, very rarely only 4 to 5 % people are selfless, only who are spiritual and extra compromising,it gives unique pleasure `Atmique Sukh`to people who are selfless. It reflects from their aura and personality.

  • It is being more concerned about the needs for others than your self.It is true that a lot of times self centered people try to use people like this and mistake kindness for weakness. It's good to keep a eye for if this happens and to deal firmly with them.

  • It's a shift from self to Self, the Oneness of life. The Oneness or God has made a creation that is completely safe. If anyone takes advantage of you it's because in your mind it's OK. All you have to do is switch over to God's mind which is selflessness.

If that sounds circular, after you experience letting go of your ego and turning your life over to God (or Krishna), you'll see it takes a while to realize you are safe and happy.

  • If some one is selfless they put the needs of others above their own needs. Yes, you're right. There are a lot of people out there just waiting to take advantage of selfless people so if you want the truth, no it's not practical to be selfless. All too often these days the good guys finish last and quite often doing the right thing doesn't pay. BUT, I think it's very IMPORTANT to be a good person and help others when you can. If you do this then that person might think a bit and help some one else and so on. If this kept going the world would be a much better place. You will also be left with the peace of mind of knowing you did the right thing. The world today needs more selfless people.

  • Selfless is when you go out of the way for others more so than you do for yourself.

Not a good thing to do because if you are not balanced and take care of yourself as well, you will get sick. There are people who always help other people who are now suffering exhaustion disorders or anxiety disorders. I personally know some people who are now suffering from that and have a team of doctors, psychiatrists to try to help them and sadly for one great person, to no avail.

I used to be selfless when I was young and naive, but now I am more balanced. Yes I badly want to help people but at times I had to learn how to say NO.

Take care of yourself AND others. If you don't take care of yourself, then you will not be in a position to help other people.

  • There is no such thing as a selfless act

  • I think its seeing others as one with us. When one sees one as another, when one hears another as another, when one thinks another as another, its selfishness , when one sees another as one with the divine/ self, its selflessness.
One cannot possibly harm or disrespect the other if one is selfless as he sees others as one with his self.

  • Hi Blessings..I'd say the good selfishness is self love and the bad selfishness is egotism: the good selflessness is generosity and the bad selflessness is self-harm (although telling them apart in practice is a whole other matter...This reminded me of something a friend told me. She was going through a tough divorce, with young kids, and she had to rely on friends much more than was comfortable to her. But, she said, having to ask for, and receive, help drew her much closer to people than she'd been before. She ended up feeling more supported and loved.

The thing is, it just feels selfish to say "I want," "I need," "Help me," "Give to me." And sometimes it IS selfish. But sometimes not....... My drama teacher used to say "Always be open to give and to receive." This could mean energy, gifts, requests, or simply an object being passed from hand to hand. The idea of openness has given me a lot of pause over the years,

  • SELFLESS word is the opposite of Selfish...Practically, a very few ppl in this world r actually selfless...Apart from being simple and good, a selfless person cares more about others, rather than him/herself...There is no feeling to get something against giving....Everyone expects back something, while he/she gives something to anyone but a selfless person has no care that what will be back on giving....They r actually men of God and there r very less chances that they can betray anyone...this kindda ppl r very rare....
