They hurt the most on the least meaty part of your body & close to a bone. Like an ankle or back shoulder blade!!! I have five, one above left breast, two back shoulder blade, right thigh & right ankle.
i have two, neither one hurt, but I guess most say when they are close to the bone.... mine are on thigh and arm so they weren't bad

Anywhere where there's not much skin/fat, such as feet, ankles, elbows, head etc. Anywhere like the neck, small of the back, behind the knees and 'sensitive skin' areas will generally hurt more.
