It's been almost 4 days now that he hasn't eaten and I don't know what to do. He used to come up to the top of the tank before when I came over because he new it was time for food but now he never leaves the bottom of the tank and the only time he does is to get oxygen. I feed him Beta pellets and was feeding him 2-3 times daily 4-5 pellets. I don't seem to see any signs of anything wrong except for his change in behaviour. I don't want to sit around and watch him starve and I am at a loss for things to do to help. I changed the water and put him near a vent to ensure the temperature went up after reading many posts pertaining to water quality and temperature but I don't think that's it. How long can he go without food before he dies? What can I do???? get him an aquatic heater
they are tropical fish
Not being rude but is he pooping ok. Have you tried giving him a cooked pea. You take a couple put them in some water and pop in the microwave for about 10 seconds, peel off the skin and crush it in your fingers, it acts as a laxative for fish. The amount of food could be a little on the high side, but I have seen reports of bettas going without eating for 2-3 weeks so I wouldn't be too concerned yet. Do you give him any other food such as live or frozen? They quite often like a variety in their diet and he could be telling you he is bored of his pellets. betta go 1-2 weeks with no food. he could be stressed over over fed. try stress coat and check your ph, amonia and other levels. petco and petsmart do it for free
first off, you're feeding way too much. his tummy is only the size of his eyes! 3-6 pellets a day is good with skipping one day of feeding a week.
what size is his bowl and how often were you doing water changes?
also, how long have you had him?
he can probably live a month or more without starving. but there is a cause to this behavior which might kill him sooner if not fixed.
