Can someone explain what is continuous aperture? Why wide angle cameras can't have continuous aperture?
I assume you mean constant aperture? This means the widest f-stop is the same at the longest focal length as it is at the widest focal length of a zoom. The f-stop is, in simple terms, the focal length divided by the physical aperture diameter. So a larger aperture is needed at the long end in order to achieve the same f-stop. Lenses with constant apertures are naturally more difficult, and thus expensive, to build. Which lenses are you talking about?
A "constant aperture" lens is a zoom lens with an f-stop (aperture) that does not change as you zoom from one zoom length to another. The Canon 70-200mm f2.8L is one example. The aperture remains at f2.8 from 70mm to 200mm.
If you look at the aforementioned lens you'll see its quite large. Its also an expensive lens - about $1,600.00. Since you could buy several point & shoot cameras for the cost of this one lens its obvious that simple economics - as well as size - make a constant aperture point & shoot zoom lens an impossibility.
