In today's society it is very possible. Everyone who says no it will never happen is usually not considering the possibility that our government could change. People are so used to having the constitution that governs our laws and way of life, but WHAT IF we had no constitution. Uh oh, that never seems to occur to anyone. The people are so blinded by stupidity, does no one out there think it is possible there could be a coup in this country, try telling the people who orchestrate this coup that they can't do something because its against the constitution, it seemed to work pretty well with Hitler didn't it.

There's not a "communist" country in the world Marx would recognize, except perhaps Cuba.
Lots of socialist countries, but no one has even suggested moving in that direction.
We are far closer to becoming a right-wing fascist or Nazi country than most people realize.
But there is NO scenario in which mass nationalization and total state control could or would happen.
These absurd bailouts of wealthy companies are of a whole different nature, and to my way of thinking, far stupider. Frankly, in those instances, I think we SHOULD nationalize the companies and then sell them off to someone COMPETENT. The morons and thieves who run them obviously haven't a clue how CAPITALISM works, so maybe we should find some legitimate people who have a chance.
We DO need to re-regulate a lot of industries, far more severely and tightly than they were before 1981, and we do need to install extremely severe felony penalties and individual responsibility for corporate fraud.
But that's another matter.
